The Power of Twitter

When I first joined Twitter over a year ago, I was very skeptical. I didn’t understand the point of it. 140 characters to type talk about what? I mean, really. At the time, I really felt like Twitter was exactly what Penny Arcade drew a comic about in April 2008.

In the past 6 months, I’ve really started to see the true power of the service. As I become more of a “Tw-erson” (a twitter person), I’ve begun to use several Twitter tools out there to make my experience a ton better. I use a service called Twhirl to watch my followed tweets, my replies and direct messages. I now can stay on top of messages faster in a much smaller dose than when I remember to actually login.

In the past week, for example, I’ve connected with a fellow business owner who helped me when I was having trouble using their web 2.0 application. I’ve also spoke with Comcast about problems I was having with their service. Cheeseburger in Paradise has begun to follow me because I talked about how much my wife and I enjoy eating there.
